Band Sunday – October 1902

A report in the Oddington section of the Islip Rural Deanery Magazine of October 1902 paints a picture of our villages in that period:-

“On Band Sunday, September 7th, the members of the Benefit Club, established for the Parishes of Charlton and Oddington, came round on their yearly tour with banners flying and with the Oakley Band discoursing sweet music. They collected altogether £6 6s 5d in Oddington and Charlton Parishes. This was sent to the Radcliffe Infirmary. We, inhabitants of Oddington, are sufficiently jealous of what little merit we may possess, and we desire it to be understood that we, on our part, did what we could in our efforts to fill the collecting boxes.”
