Winter Heart is the new single from Oxford-based singer, producer, composer and performer Bethany Weimers. Released via 1784 Records the track is her first new material since 2012’s critically acclaimed album, Harpsichord Row and comes backed with a remix by space-rock cosmonauts Flights of Helios.

Winter Heart is Bethany’s first release of new material since her debut and is a taster for her forthcoming second album. Like a long-lost, enchanted music box, crystalline piano and Bethany’s fragile vocal bewitches the listener before embracing them with open arms in the warming melodies and harmonies of the chorus. Beautifully ethereal, it echoes the pastoral Englishness of Kate Bush and the recent award-winning works of PJ Harvey whilst being shot through with the immediacy and modern focus of Amanda Palmer and Marissa Nadler.

Bethany’s previous album, the self-produced Harpsichord Row, was a beautifully atmospheric collection of songs, striding across both folk and pop music with melodic hooks belying their darker content, poignantly exploring the human condition whilst remaining uplifting and life affirming. Bethany’s background in composition (she has a masters degree from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama) and time spent working as an audio restoration engineer are both evident on record, as is her passion for storytelling and the craft of songwriting.

Since the album’s release and with a reputation as a stunning live performer preceding her, Bethany has been steadily gathering loyal fans from across the globe, with successful tours both home and abroad. In the UK her tracks have been played on BBC 6 Music and BBC Introducing, including a live session for her local BBC Oxford Introducing show. She has performed twice at the prestigious Towersey Folk Festival, at venues such as O2 Academy Oxford and St George’s Hall Liverpool, as well as sharing bills with Eliza Carthy and Aoife O’Donovan.
