Homage to Makereti Papakura
During 2021 and 2022 Evie O’Brien, a Maori attached to the Atlantic Institute – Rhodes Trust in Oxford, has been working with Oxford University on a project to honour Makereti’s contribution to the University and to the field of anthropology. This led to the organisation of a conference in the university in October 2022. Oddington was represented by Celia Warde-Aldham and Susan Gosling at the lectures held at the Pitt Rivers Museum.
Some of the conference attendees took the opportunity to visit Makereti’s grave and tribute at the Church.
